Ubuntu Server 6.06 with ISPConfig

I am currently setting up a Ubuntu 6.06 Server to setup some push email to my Windows Mobile 5 device (how-to coming in a few days). I followed “The Perfect Setup” on howtoforge, but the only thing that refused to work was the ISPConfig setup. It would error out with the following information:

ERROR: The PHP binary coming with ISPConfig does not work properly on your system! The installation routine stops here!

There is a page or so of other errors before that, but that is the final one.

To fix this you need to install flex, well actually lex, so at a root shell type;

apt-get install flex

It should also require bison (depending whether it is on your system or not), but once it is installed, unpack the ISPConfig-2.2.5.tar.gz file and run setup again, and it should work fine.

It only took me 4 hours to work that out! *stupid*

  1. nice…looking for the how to on pushing email to windows mobile device.

  2. Yeah sorry about that, I lost the virtual machine I was setting it up on. But it has peaked my interest again, I will try and work on it this week

    Thanks for visiting

  3. So, you’ve actually got push email working and you just have to write the how-to? Or you need to figure out how to get it working?

  4. flex is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.

but I still get this same error…

(FLEX was installed even before starting the ISPConfig setup)

  5. I am having the exact same problem. I saw this post and I thought i was in for a solution here, but alas, flex was already installed.

    Back to Google for me.

  6. this was given to me on another forum and it worked

    rm -f /bin/sh
    ln -s /bin/bash /bin/sh

something about bash being messed up with ubuntu

  7. Hello.
I recommend to use Expert mode during the installation, and make attention to the generation of ssl certifs (not says OK OK OK without read).
    Bye

  8. Hi in here,
Was having the same problem and saw the bash issue. I would like to refer to: http://liquidweather.net/howto/index.php?id=59 .
There’s an explenation on why the bash was a bit messed up.

  9. *update*
The bash solution didn’t work for me. Eventually ended up at this site: http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/showpost.php?p=102014&postcount=27

Stating the latest version of gcc was the cause for the installer to stop. Did the apt-get install gcc-3.4 and made the dir as mentioned in the post above. Reran the ./setup and am waiting. I’ll post back the results.

  10. Saw this post I had the same problem, but I guess that is just a default error. I fixed it my installing some modules I forgot:

    apt-get install libhtml-parser-perl libdb-file-lock-perl libnet-dns-perl

    Works perfect now
